The Government of India has taken up the INDUS Child Labour Project for Aurangabad district. This will help to seek a future without Child Labour and give every child their childhood and education.
       The project started functioning in Aurangabad  on June 9,2004 through the National Child Labour Project , Aurangabad (NCLP) under the chairmanship of the Collector.
       INDUS Child Labour Project  is a joint venture of the Government of India and the United States of America. The International Labour Organization, New Delhi is the implementing agency in India.

Selection of NGOs

The NCLP selected 10 NGOs by the selection committee from 135 applicants to run the Transitional Education Centers (TEC)


Mainstreaming
5-8 years
1000 children have been mainstreamed in the regular schools

9-13 years
1023 children have been mainstreamed in regular and private schools (2004-2007)

14-17 years
1017 adolescents have been given vocational training and provided with placement and self employment opportunities

OBJECTIVES
  •        Identifying children working in hazardous and non hazardous occupations;
  •        Withdrawing children and young persons from these hazardous situations;
  •        Placing the withdrawn children in Transitional Educational Centres (TEC)
                 and mainstream them in regular schools
  •        Providing Vocational Training and placements for the adolescent group
  •        Providing income generating opportunities to the mothers of child labour
  •        Strengthening public education infrastructure in the target areas
  •        Creating an environment for prevention of child labour through awareness in the society


TARGET GROUP

            In the district there are three groups of direct beneficiaries
  •        1000 children (5-8 years) direct enrollment in regular schools
  •        2000 children (9-13 years) provided with transitional education and mainstream them in regular schools
  •        1000 adolescents (14-17 years) provided with vocational training and placement.

Execution/Monitoring/Convergence

The project is being implemented by Government agencies, NGOs, and M.C.E.D. The meeting by the NCLP, Core Committee members and the Chairman of the project help in monitoring the project. The Chairman, Project Chief, Chief Coordinator and the project staff are regularly interacting with the various Government institutions and various other Organizations for convergence.
